Summary
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows looks to be the biggest game in the series’ history, at least as far as file size is concerned.
- According to the Apple App Store, it clocks in at 123GB, a huge leap from Valhalla’s 50GB at launch.
According to the Apple App Store, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be the biggest game in the series’ history by a wide margin, with a file size of 123GB.
At launch, Origins was just 42.3GB, whereas Odyssey was a little bigger at 45GB. Even the infamously huge Valhalla only clocked in at a surprising 50GB. They have all ballooned in size thanks to regular updates and expansive story DLC: Valhalla surpasses Shadows right now with a download size of 158GB. So, with expansions already confirmed, AC Shadows will only continue to get bigger.
The file sizes will inevitably vary between macOS, Windows, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
It’s worth keeping in mind, however, that Valhalla received a post-launch update that reduced its file size, and Shadows may follow suit. But for the time being, it appears to be a major leap in download size compared to past games. You might want to clear out your SSD ahead of next month, just to be on the safe side.
Shadows Is The First Assassin’s Creed Game For MacOS Since Revelations
After the release of Assassin’s Creed Revelations in 2011, bookmarking the Ezio trilogy after just two years, Ubisoft left macOS behind completely.
But after 14 years, Shadows is finally bringing the series back to Apple computers. Ubisoft is clearly trying to reach as many players as possible going forward, as Shadows also marks a return to day one releases on Steam, while the French publishing giant has even been implementing achievements for older games like Far Cry 3.
While Mirage didn’t launch on macOS, it was released on iOS for iPhone and iPad.
Whether we see any of the other Assassin’s Creed games make their way to macOS in liue of Shadows’ release, especially with the new Animus Hub, remains to be seen.
