Leaker NateTheHate has claimed that Final Fantasy IX Remake is still in development, with Square Enix also working on a remake of Final Fantasy Tactics.
While nothing official has been announced yet, the tipster was asked about the status of both long-rumoured projects on X, to which he responded: “Both remain in active development. FFIXR isn’t expected to see release in 2025. Maybe we’ll see it launch in 2026.”
We’ve been hearing about a Final Fantasy IX Remake for a while now, with the last major tidbit dropping in June 2024 via another popular leaker, Midori. It was claimed at the time that Final Fantasy IX Remake wasn’t among the games cancelled at Square Enix following restituting plans, and that development of the project is very far along.

Other sources also corroborated that a Final Fantasy IX Remake is in the pipeline, such gaming site Gematsu and journalist Jeff Grubb. Naoki Yoshida also touched base on a possible Final Fantasy IX Remake during an interview back in October last year, where he stated that if it were to happen, then it may require more than one title.
Meanwhile, a remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics was reported to be in the works last year by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, although again, nothing official has been announced yet.
