Potential Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Details Revealed in Job Posting

Though it didn’t launch in great shape, CD Projekt Red‘s sci-fi open-world game Cyberpunk 2077 grew into a feat for the studio. The developer’s constant work culminated with its Phantom Liberty expansion, which was a critical hit, and added huge quality of life improvements to the game. Now that the company is working on a sequel, it seems it will continue its ambitious work, with one detail unearthed in a recent job posting.

CD Projekt Red aiming to bring “the most realistic crowds ever seen in a video game” in Cyberpunk 2077 sequel

As reported by VGC, CD Projekt Red recently posted job openings for the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. One such opening is for a lead encounter designer that will help “create memorable gameplay encounters.”

Much of the listing includes all the responsibilities and qualifications people would expect. However, in the last bullet point of the “Daily Responsibilities” section, a tiny tidbit gives the audience a notion of what to expect from the upcoming RPG.

That last tidbit says, “Work in close collaboration with the systems design team to create the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date.” This is just a job posting, so there aren’t any details beyond that.

While information on what this means is sparse, it is fun to speculate. One game that features an exceptional realistic and reactive crowd system is Red Dead Redemption 2. Unlike Cyberpunk, Rockstar’s cowboy simulator had genuinely surprising and realistic interactions with in-game NPCs. There were obvious barriers that hindered it from being like a genuine interaction with an actual person, but it’s probably the best representation of that particular system to date in an open-world setting.

If a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel can manage something in this vein, but with the dense crowds ofthe first, that would be impressive.

Regardless, all of this won’t really be seen for awhile. CD Projekt Red’s next game looks to be The Witcher 4.
