Spacepunk Survival from Nejcraft and Tavern Tale Studio is a multiplayer horde first-person shooter on Nintendo Switch. You’ll be located in Iapetus Station, where danger always lurks in the darkness. This once-thriving laboratory has now been overrun by deadly alien creatures, and you’ll have to do whatever it takes to survive… at least for as long as possible. After all, death is very much part of the gameplay loop since you won’t be able to defeat all aliens, no matter what you do. The multiplayer part is online-only, so you’re going to need a Nintendo Switch Online account for that.
Since this is a first-person shooter, you’ll be taking control of your character with the left analog stick as you use the right analog stick to look around and aim as needed. You can run by pressing in on the left analog stick. You can jump by pressing the B button and use a melee attack by pressing in on the right analog stick. Once you’re ready to attack one of the many monsters you’ll run into, you’ll be able to aim by pressing the ZL button as you shoot by pressing the ZR button. Reload by pressing the Y button.
The gameplay loop is simple and to the point. You’ll have to defeat as many aliens as possible so that you can proceed to the next wave. You’ll collect money by doing this and will get a chance to purchase new guns and perks in order to keep the run going. You will also get a chance to locate weapons as you explore each room. Each weapon will have different values for the damage dealt per second, magazine size, and reload speed.
What are some of the perks that you can collect to have a better chance of surviving? You can get the Captain perk, which grants discounts at the shop while also increasing mobility as well as assist speed. On top of that, damage and reload speed will receive a boost for each dead player. Another one is Gunslinger, which will reduce reload speed while also doubling the damage dealt by the first shot on an enemy. You can also add the Marksman perk, and each consecutive hit on the same enemy will increase the damage. If you unlock the Scavenger perk, then you’ll be able to gain more money by landing headshots. Oh, and you’ll also have more HP and will regenerate at a faster rate.

Unfortunately, this game is not worht your time. The framerate is a mess, there’s pop-in even though you can’t see more than a couple of feet ahead of you, and enemies have a tendency to kill you in a couple of hits as they gang up on you and hit you from blindspots. Because of this, the online portion is pretty much DOA, which leaves you with nothing more to do but host single-player sessions so that you can at least play the game. Spacepunk Survival is out on Nintendo Switch with a $9.99 price tag.
