Xbox Game Pass sees the return of a critically acclaimed bullet hell roguelike today

Xbox Game Pass sees the return of a fan favourite bullet hell game today.

Enter the Gungeon was on Game Pass a number of years ago but was eventually removed from the service after a while.

Developer Dodge Roll’s game has now returned today, however, and is available to Xbox Game Pass Standard, Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers.

Originally released on PC and PS4 in 2016 before coming to Xbox One and Switch the following year, Enter the Gungeon is part bullet hell, part roguelike.

Players initially take control of one of four armed characters called Gungeoneers – a Marine, a Convict, a Hunter or a Pilot – and have to make their way through procedurally generated rooms in search of a magic gun that’s said to be able to “kill the past”.

As with many roguelikes, if the player dies as they make their way through the Gungeon’s five floors, they’re dead for good and have to start all over again from the first room.

Enter the Gungeon was critically well received, with Metacritic scores ranging from 82 to 87 depending on the platform. According to publisher Devolver Digital, the game’s total sales had passed 3 million by 2020.

Xbox confirmed the first wave of March 2025 Game Pass releases earlier this month, with Enter the Gungeon being the fourth of six games announced for the first half of the month.

Already added to the service earlier this month were Monster Train, Galacticare and One Lonely Outpost, while Mullet Madjack and 33 Immortals are arriving in the coming days.

One of last year’s Game of the Year nominees, Balatro, also received a surprise Game Pass release last month. The news was shared during an ID@Xbox showcase, during which it was also announced that Revenge of the Savage Planet is coming to Game Pass at release in May.
