HBO recently aired a trailer for The Last of Us Season 2, and it’s already broken records before the season goes live. The trailer crossed 158 million views across platforms around the globe within three days — a new record for HBO.
HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 trailer sets the stage for the game’s biggest controversy
As reported by Deadline, The Last of Us Season 2 trailer outperformed all previous teasers and trailers by at least 160 percent. Season 1’s episodes are currently averaging 32 million viewers across the U.S. alone. Suffice to say, The Last of Us has proven to be a massive hit for both PlayStation Productions and HBO.
HBO’s trailer sets the stage for the game franchise’s biggest controversy. We still don’t know how Joel’s fate will be handled in this one, and if it will even be addressed in this season. However, we do see the introduction of Abby, which actress Kaitlyn Dever told ScreenRant she wants to do justice to.
Dever’s security was enhanced on set because of the controversy. Abby voice actress Laura Bailey continued to receive death threats over her role in the game for years after release.
The Last of Us Season 2 will air starting April 13.
