Sony Interactive Entertainment may still be looking to continue its efforts in the live service space despite previous setbacks, with a new job listing also suggesting it’s looking at exploring the competitive esports market.
The PlayStation job listing is for a UX/UI Design Lead, which mentions development of an unannounced project that the successful candidate will be involved in. Experience mentions “leading or directly supporting leadership in an ongoing live service game,” as well as “experience with global gaming markets and the competitive gaming/esports landscape.”

As a UX/UI Design Lead, you will drive the UX of an Unannounced Project from prototype to production, from early technical planning and user flows, playtesting and tweaking the UI of the shipping game. Most importantly, you will work with a fun, dedicated, and passionate cross-discipline team devoted to turning a creative dream into a new franchise at PlayStation.
Sony’s attempts to conquer the live service market haven’t been exactly successful so far. Concord launched in August last year after much hype from the console maker, only to flop on arrival and was pulled offline less than a month later and its creator Firewalk Studios shuttered. In addition, Sony cancelled two live service games that were in development at Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games, the latter of which was reportedly set in the God of War universe.
Finally, Naughty Dog was working on a multiplayer entry based in The Last of Us universe (presumably based on the Factions multiplayer from the original game), but this was also scrapped by Sony.
