News About The Future Of Baldur’s Gate Is Coming From Hasbro “In Pretty Short Order,” Says Hasbro’s Digital Games SVP

Baldur’s Gate III set a new bar for what RPG’s can and arguably should look like in the modern gaming landscape, so of course fans were incredibly curious as to what the next step in the series would be.

Although we know Larian Studios won’t be behind whatever comes next for Baldur’s Gate, the studio has laid an incredible foundation for someone else to come and build on. And according to Baldur’s Gate IP owner Hasbro, it won’t be too much longer before we hear about what’s next.

While speaking to IGN during San Francisco’s Game Developer Conference this week, senior vice president of digital games at Hasbro, Dan Ayoub was reassuring that more news is coming soon.

“We’re kind of working out plans for the future and what we’re going to be doing with that. And actually, in pretty short order, we’re going to have some stuff to talk about around that.”

Whether the upcoming “stuff” is the news that Hasbro has partnered with a new studio to make Baldur’s Gate 4, or something else regarding new games in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, or new games based in one of the other major IP’s Hasbro owns, Ayoub didn’t clarify.

He did however clarify that players shouldn’t be holding their breath thinking that Baldur’s Gate 4 is a few short years away, or something like that.

“It’s somewhat of an unenviable position. I mean, we’re not in a hurry. Right? That’s the thing, we’re going to take a very measured approach…We’ve got a lot of plans, a lot of different ways to go about it. We’re starting to think about, okay, yeah, we’re ready to start dipping toes a little bit and talking about a few other things. And I think, in really short order, like I said, again, not to over-tease that point, we’re going to have some other things to talk about around that.”

If Ayoub’s definition of “short-order” is the same as what players would like to believe, then we could be hearing about what’s next for Baldur’s Gate before the end of the year, at the latest, and at the earliest, sometime during the upcoming Summer Games Fest.

Either way, Ayoub is aware of the fact that whatever Hasbro does next with Baldur’s Gate, they need to get it right.

“I’m never one to shy down from a challenge, and I think anything that forces us to raise our creative bar, and developers love to have a high bar to go after, and I think we’ve actually seen the team push some really interesting ideas that they’re like, ‘Okay, we need to raise our bar. We need to go bigger on this.’ And things like that. So, I think that’s our hope, right? We would keep raising the bar and everyone just tries to go a little higher.”
