April 2025 might be the busiest month for Xbox this year, and it has nothing to do with Microsoft’s own console platform. Forza Horizon 5 is confirmed to release next month on PS5, with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle rumored to follow. Now, one of the most beloved real-time strategy games might be headed to PlayStation’s current-gen platform according to a recent update from developer World’s Edge.
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition on PS5 aiming for mid-April release
Today, World’s Edge released patch notes for an upcoming Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition update scheduled to release next month. The developer explains that the patch notes are out so early because they are “legendarily long” and they wanted to give players a glimpse of what to look forward to.
“Today, we’re doing something a little different with our patch notes,” reads the update. “Usually, you get these on the same day that an update is being released, but this time we’re providing patch notes in advance. We’re not yet ready to say exactly when this update is dropping, but you can expect to hear from us in mid-April.”
What makes this more significant is this seems to be the patch notes for its upcoming expansion, which releases alongside the PS5 version of Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition. Not much was said about the expansion, but there are hints in the patch notes, and the developer confirmed it will include five new civilizations that are all playable in Ranked Multiplayer.
Putting all this information together, it seems the PS5 version of Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is slated to launch in mid-April along with this update. None of this is outright stated in the update, but with these patch notes being a preview for the next expansion, and the developer stating it will release both the expansion and the PS5 version alongside each other, it seems like a logical conclusion.
