- There’s no release date just yet, but the creators aim to have a demo ready by spring.
With the modding tools open to fans, Baldur’s Gate 3 players are now able to create their own custom campaigns. Of course, this is much easier said than done, but there’s already one project that’s been sharing consistent updates: Path to Menzoberranzan.
This fan-made expansion will feature a completely new cast, including a new player character. As part of this, lead writer Thomas Loughlin tells Video Gamer that the mod will include “six to eight” new companions, all fully voiced.

There will even be pets that follow us around like Scratch
“We’re going to have around six to eight completely unique and original custom companions, which I am super excited about,” Loughlin says in an interview. He says this was an “obvious” decision, since players are going to spend a significant amount of time in the fan-made expansion.
While most of these will be humanoid, there will be two animal characters joining the gang. “We have a version of Scratch… we’ve got a couple. He [another developer, Lotrich] prefers one, I prefer another one, but they’re pretty cool.”
We haven’t had a look at these new companions yet, or the furry friends that are joining us for the adventure, but we have had a look at some of the areas we’ll be exploring. So far, the screenshots have showcased a reimagined Athkatla, which long-time fans will remember from Baldur’s Gate 2. Eventually, we’ll see Menzoberranzan, a drow city in the Underdark – not to be confused with the drow city from Baldur’s Gate 2, Ust Natha.
Right now, there’s no word on when Path to Menzoberranzan will be completed. However, the creators are hoping to have a demo available in the spring.
