Diablo 4 is Now Selling Pets

Non-combat Diablo 4 pets have been added to the in-game shop in the form of the Pale Perry and Quillgem Scamp bundles. Blizzard is known for selling in-game pets, mounts, and more in World of Warcraft, but this is the first time pets have been featured in the Diablo 4 shop.

The Pandaren Monk and Lil’ Kel’Thuzad World of Warcraft pets were originally added in 2009 and since then, Blizzard has experimented with microtransactions for its games. Before this, most Blizzard microtransactions revolved around services like moving and renaming characters, faction changes, and more. Non-combat pets are nothing new to the Diablo series either, with many pets offered as drops, event rewards, and BlizzCon goodies in Diablo 3. The Hratli Canine Pet and Natalya Tiger Pet are also included in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred‘s Ultimate Edition. Now Blizzard has released its first non-combat pets in the Diablo 4 shop with the Pale Perry and Quillgem Scamp.

Icy Veins has reported that the latest Diablo 4 patch introduced the Pale Perry and Quillgem Scamp bundles to the in-game shop. These bundles are the first to include pets alongside other cosmetics. The Pale Perry Bundle includes an ax-wielding goat Prestige Pet, the Perry Horn Mount Trophy, and The Golden Goat Emblem and matching banner. The Quillgem Scamp bundle includes a partially crystallized Quill Rat Prestige Pet, Quillgem Star Mount Trophy, and Screeching Scam Emblem. Both bundles cost 2,500 Diablo 4 Platinum Coins, which roughly equates to $25. Despite many gamers celebrating the addition of these pets, some are suggesting that the Bundle prices are a bit steep.

Multiple Reddit users have voiced their displeasure with these shop bundles, suggesting they should’ve been released at a lower price. Players looking to acquire a new non-combat pet without spending money can earn Dorian the Raven as a free reward in Diablo 4 Season 7. The new shop bundles add lore to Pale Perry and the Quillgem Scamp which grounds them in the world of Sanctuary. The text describing Pale Perry suggests that the citizens of Sanctuary fear he will turn them into goats, and that he “ain’t no natural child.” Meanwhile, the description of the Quillgem Scamp proclaims the pet as the “richest of runts,” and that they can be lured out of hiding with shiny objects.

As Blizzard continues to update Diablo 4 with new cosmetic rewards, more free ones will likely be released alongside paid Bundles to appeal to all types of gamers. Given that Blizzard has earned impressive revenue and proceeds for charities with cosmetics in its other games, this may just be the beginning for Diablo 4 shop items.
