Amazon is producing a new God of War TV show for Prime Video, and the company is apparently pretty confident in it. According to writer Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, For All Mankind), Amazon has already ordered a second season, even before Season 1 has aired.
Appearing on The Sackhoff Show with Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff, Moore said the God of War TV show is his current project, and writers are now putting the show together.
“Right now I’m working on the adaptation of this video game called God of War that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they asked me to come in, I’m literally in the writers room and that’s my new thing,” he said, as reported by GamesRadar.
Moore, 60, said he hasn’t played video games since the ’80s, so he’s struggling a bit to actually play the new God of War games. “The controllers now…” he said with a laugh. “Press R1, which one’s R1, oh I’m dead! I can’t quite get a hold of that.”
Moore wasn’t originally involved with the God of War TV show, but he came aboard in late 2024 after a big shakeup for the show saw most of its creative leads leave the series.
It’s still early days for the God of War TV series, and there is no word yet on who may star in it or when it may be released. Whatever the case, it’s just the latest video game adaptation from Amazon, following the popular Fallout show, which is coming back for a second season. Amazon also has the video game anthology series Secret Level and is working on a live-action Tomb Raider series.
As for the God of War game series, 2022’s God of War Ragnarok was the latest entry in the series, and it wrapped up the Norse saga. It’s one of Sony’s most popular and beloved franchises, so it’s likely not a matter of if but when a new game is announced.
Beyond a new God of War game, developer Sony Santa Monica could be making a new IP.
