Helldivers 2 is getting its own movie, and everyone is speculating about who might get cast to fight the Terminid horde on behalf of Super Earth, freedom, and democracy.
Fans asked CEO Shams Jorjani directly if he knew anything about the movie yet, with someone even musing, “no Chris Pratt I hope”. Jorjani responded, “They keep us in the loop […] We’re all hoping for as many A-list actors as possible – as long as they all get killed violently immediately”.
Fans have already thrown out Sean Bean as a candidate, given his experience in… dying. Although Reddit user theta0123 suggested that they should be a “HD1 veteran” who never dies, “Just to pi** people off”. Brad Pitt, Aaron Paul, Dawyne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, Henry Cavill, and Sylvester Stallone are also popular picks.
Others, however, have suggested bringing in the Starship Troopers cast to play “older Helldivers” in the propaganda and training videos, paying homage to the game’s inspirations.
But forget A-listers for a moment, as commenter AlexJBarke put forward their own fun suggestion — kill the fans. “Please casting call the community so we can all go be extras in the name of Super Earth”. Nothing would be more Helldivers than a montage of random players being blown up and mauled to death by Terminid.
It’s a fun suggestion, especially since not everyone is on board with famous movie stars playing the role of ordinary Helldivers. Some are worried they wouldn’t keep the helmet on, while others simply want the troops to look like “a normal casual human”, not “strong muscular models”.
We don’t know so much as the director yet, so it’ll be a while before we get any concrete information. But if the devs get their wish, we might be looking forward to a big slaughterfest of some of Hollywood’s most recognisable faces to kickstart the film.
