A major PS5, PS4 shooter is reportedly facing an uncertain future amid loss of players, according to a known insider. It sounds almost unbelievable that Call of Duty: Warzone would lose support, but well-connected insider GhostofHope claims to have heard that there won’t be a Warzone 3 if things continue the way they are going.
PS4, PS5 free-to-play shooter Call of Duty: Warzone needs Verdansk to be successful
In a tweet, GhostofHope wrote that if the return of Verdansk to Warzone 2.0 fails to retain players, there won’t be a Warzone 3 along with Call of Duty 2026. “If Verdansk fails they wont put the resources into it,” GhostofHope tweeted. “Warzone is pretty much in limbo at the moment.”
The insider further wrote that people shouldn’t be shocked that Activision might not invest any further resources into Warzone because the free-to-play shooter will have been out for six years by 2026, but “continues to see diminishing returns.”
In other news, GhostofHope claims that this year’s Call of Duty will be the last one to support last-gen platforms. Starting with the rumored Modern Warfare 4 in 2026, Activision will focus on current-gen and next-gen platforms. Apparently, the game is already being developed on next-gen Xbox dev kits.
