Marvel Rivals Has Reached 40 Million Players Worldwide, Confirms NetEase Games


NetEase Games has revealed during its latest financial results that Marvel Rivals has eclipsed the 40 million player milestone.

The company stated that Marvel Rivals reached the summit of the global top sellers chart for Steam in December 2024, with 10 million users registered during opening three days across all available formats. Furthermore, Season 1 saw the game top the charts in January 2025.

Meanwhile, NetEase generated RMB21.2 billion ($2.9 billion) in net revenues across games and related services for the three-month period ended December 31, 2024, which marked an increase of 1.5% compared to the same period the year before.

The news comes just days after Thaddeus Sasser, the California-based game director at NetEase, revealed that he and an undisclosed number of other developers working on Marvel Rivals in the US had been laid off.

Marvel Rivals launched for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on December 6, 2024, and takes the form of a 6v6 PvP hero shooter based around the Marvel Comics universe. The game features a roster of over 35 iconic characters from the comics, including Captain America, Black Panther, Adam Warlock, Groot, Iron Man, Moon Knight, The Punisher, Rocket Raccoon, and Wolverine among others.
