Developer CyberConnect2 has officially announced a May 29, 2025 release date and platforms for Fuga: Melodies of Steel 3, the latest entry in its tactical RPG series. Taking the story from 2023’s Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 to its conclusion, Fuga: Melodies of Steel 3 will appear on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Though games like .hack, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm titles are what tend to come to mind when thinking about the games of CyberConnect2, the company has recently been building up its original Little Tail Bronx series through the Fuga: Melodies of Steel games. The latter trilogy has proved to be a hit among the developers’ fans for its emotional story and unique tactical gameplay that has players controlling a massive tank called the Taranis, managing its systems as it and the children operating it combat threats and reach their destination.

According to CyberConnect2’s announcement, Fuga: Melodies of Steel 3 is set for launch on consoles and PC on May 29, 2025. Though Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 was a day one Xbox Game Pass title, CyberConnect2 didn’t indicate that Melodies of Steel 3 would follow the same pattern. It may make the announcement later, or the game could join the rotation sometime after release. CyberConnect2 also debuted a teaser trailer for Fuga: Melodies of Steel 3, featuring scenes and voice work hinting at the game’s plot.

Fuga: Melodies of Steel 3 Trailer Promises Dramatic Developments

The Fuga: Melodies of Steel 3 teaser trailer builds on the “secret movie” teasers hidden in the menus of the first two games. The new teaser adds voice work and new footage on top of what was found in Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2. Scenes of bloodshed transition to an announcement that the Berman Empire is invading the nation of Gasco. Meanwhile, it shows the the Taranis, the massive battle tank at the center of Fuga‘s unique JRPG mechanics that was thought lost at the end of Fuga 2. Now the tank seems to sprout wings and fly, with lines suggesting that the story will take the cast to the moon and beyond.

In its press release, CyberConnect2 outlined more of what Melodies of Steel 3 will bring to the table when it releases, detailing “substantial changes” to the existing battle system, as well as an upgraded “Intermission” system. The Intermission system allows players to unlock the hidden powers of the Taranis and evolve it into its ultimate form. They can also uncover secret narrative scenes and even “change fate” by navigating the timeline.

Reaction to the trailer’s release was generally positive. Many fans expressed excitement for the story’s conclusion, looking forward to the dramatic turns promised in the teaser. Others praised the series’ uniqueness as a linear JRPG without exploration, a choice that eschews the popular trend towards sprawling open-world design.
