Monolith Was Reportedly Struggling To Integrate Its Nemesis System In Wonder Woman


Jason Schreier has revealed during an appearance on the Kinda Funny Games podcast that Monolith Production was struggling to implement the Nemesis System in the now-cancelled Wonder Woman game.

The Bloomberg journalist claimed that the most recent version of Wonder Woman prior to its cancellation would not have included the Nemesis System, and instead functioned more like a traditional action-adventure game like God of War. Schreier also stated that following its two Middle-earth titles, Monolith had planned to work on a new IP to expand the Nemesis systems procedural narrative.

However, this project was cancelled in 2021 by Warner Bros. and a number of key leadership at the studio quit. Monolith then shifted gears to Wonder Woman and announced the game at The Game Awards in December that year.

During this time, it’s kind of clear to people at Warner Bros that this game is not going to happen, because people at Warner Bros are not interested in new IP. Warner Bros decides it’s not interested in new IP and decides they (Monolith) are going to make a Wonder Woman game.

“The main thing that was rebooted, they were playing around with the idea this idea that Wonder Woman would befriend people, it was the Nemesis System in reverse where they would become your allies, and it wasn’t coming together. They rebooted it to be more of a God of War style more traditional action game, by then it was kind of too late.

Warner Bros. announced earlier this week that it was shutting down Monolith Productions, Player First Games and WB San Diego. Furthermore, the Nemesis System is under lock and key at the publisher thanks to a patent that doesn’t expire until 2036.
