Earlier this week, MultiVersus fans were hit with a bombshell when Player First Games and Warner Bros. confirmed that the game would be going offline once again following its fifth and final season. Although MultiVersus had been struggling to gain traction ever since its year-long hiatus and relaunch, its sudden cancellation came as a big shock to most players.

I Wish I Cared More About MultiVersus Going Offline Again

MultiVersus was once my favourite live-service game, but its demise was simply inevitable.

Since the news that MultiVersus was going offline for good was confirmed, rumours started flying that the game’s director, Tony Huynh, was responsible for most of the game’s issues and its eventual death. Although Huynh was initially silent about MultiVersus’ shutdown, he’s finally shared his thoughts over on Twitter and responded to the claims.

MultiVersus Director Says “Nobody Wanted This Outcome”

Huynh’s statement begins by noting that, although he’s sad about what’s happened to the game, he’s grateful to have been given the chance to bring so many Warner Bros. characters to life. The director also apologised for not addressing things soon, which he says is because he’s been “focused on the game and the team”.

Alongside sharing his thoughts on the shutdown, Huynh also apologises to fans who didn’t get the characters they wanted in the game and explains that the decisions were down to development time, listening to the community, and working with IP holders. Seemingly in response to the hate that Lola and Aquaman have already received, Huynh says that both are “really cool” and should be checked out.

Before thanking everyone for the chance to work on MultiVersus, Huynh also appeared to respond to some of the claims that it was his fault the game got shut down. He stated that he doesn’t “have the power” that some think he does, and that the threats he’s received are “crossing the line” while he’s in mourning over the end of MultiVersus.
