Urban Myth Dissolution Center from Shueisha Games and Hakababunko is a psycho-detective mystery adventure worth checking out on Nintendo Switch. You’ll be going on an episodic journey as you explore and investigate different urban myths that haunt the internet. Because of this, you’ll be working from the titular Urban Myth Dissolution Center as Azami Fukurai, all under the supervision of Ayumu Meguriya, Level S psychic and Center Director. As you obtain evidence, review social media posts, and collect peculiar items, you’ll be able to get closer and closer to the truth.
What makes Azami so good at this? It seems she has a very special ability that allows her to see ghosts and other peculiar things! When she goes to the Urban Myth Dissolution Center, Center Director Ayumu Meguriya lets her know he has the same power… and then shares a pair of powerful glasses. After Azami dons them, she’ll be able to see everything more clearly, as is usually the case with glasses. Unfortunately, that means she can see the apparitions as clearly as day!
It’s then that the Director lets her know that what she’s seeing is not ghosts but the effects of her clairvoyance ability. What is happening is that Ayumi has the power to see the memories of places, which is enhanced thanks to her new glasses. You’re going to basically be seeing things and people that used to be at a particular spot, which is going to be of great use as you investigate anomalies that are beyond the scope of regular law enforcement.
The game can be played by using the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con or by making the most of the console’s touchscreen when playing in Tabletop or Portable Mode or when playing on a Nintendo Switch Lite console. Since this one is a visual novel adventure game, there will be a lot of reading in your future. As you explore each location, you’ll use the left analog stick or the D-Pad to control Ayumi as you interact with objects or other characters by pressing the A button as needed.
The first case you’ll be working on is that of the Death Chair. You see, the Director had placed the chair in his office for research, and he forgot about it when he asked you to sit down and relax. Since you’re now, in theory, cursed, your only options are to not do anything and die or to find a way to solve this case before it’s too late. With this being your first case, it won’t be a hard one to solve, especially since it will serve as a tutorial.
As you interact with the bookshelves, you’ll select the only available option for your investigation: looking for the research file that the Director mentioned. For other cases, you’ll end up finding more than one option for your investigation, be that for interacting with objects or with others. Once you’ve interacted with all the bookshelves, you’ll be prompted to talk with the Director so that you can let him know that the research file is nowhere to be found. It’s then that he’ll mention you should put on the glasses he gave you – which you can do by pressing the X button or by tapping on the icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. By collecting data and learning new information, you’ll eventually be able to form a hypothesis for the current scenario.
With the glasses on, you’ll now be able to see things that those without the power of clairvoyance – and the special glasses now in your possession – can’t see. Thanks to the glasses, you’ll notice that a “ghost” is browsing a specific book. Upon closer inspection, you’ll be able to grab a set of documents sticking out of its pages. The bad news is that the research file does not mention how to uncurse someone. You will learn that those afflicted by the curse will suffer from lower body necrosis… wait, that’s really bad! Will you be able to find out how to cure your curse? You’ll have to play the game to find the solution to your predicament!

I had a great time with Urban Myth Dissolution Center. I loved its mix of gameplay mechanics, which, at times, gave me some Ace Attorney X Shin Megami Tensei vibes here and there. I also loved the pixel art style for the game and the soundtrack, which makes this one an easy game to recommend on the console. Urban Myth Dissolution Center is out on Nintendo Switch with a $17.99 price tag. You can also check out the Urban Myth Dissolution Center “Case File: Kune Kune” Manga for free at Manga Plus.
