Ongoing PS5, PS5 Pro VRR Issues Reported by LG TV Owners

A large number of LG TV owners are reporting PS5 and PS5 Pro VRR issues that have been ongoing for months without a fix in sight. At present, it’s unclear if the issue is on Sony‘s end or an LG firmware update is the culprit, but players are reporting noticeable lag and stuttering, among other issues.

LG TV owners say PS5, PS5 Pro VRR has been broken for over 3 months

In an extensive Reddit thread that details the issues as well as widespread complaints from LG TV owners, players say that the problems began over three months ago, but there’s some debate over what caused them. During this period, both Sony and LG rolled out firmware updates, so it’s hard to pinpoint the origin.

Players say that within 10 minutes of gameplay with VRR on, they start experiencing lag, random frame rate spikes and drops, stuttering, and flickering. The only solution is to disable VRR entirely, but sometimes re-enabling the feature temporarily resolves the issue.

The problem was also highlighted in a recent Digital Foundry video that presents a tech analysis of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Some LG TV owners on Reddit and ResetEra claim that they have not experienced any VRR issues on their end, while others say that only a small number of games are affected.

That this affects a large number of LG TV models but not all of them leads us to believe that TV firmware update could be the culprit. However, the author of the aforementioned Reddit thread claims that they tested VRR on an older LG firmware and still experienced the same issues.
