Summary
- Pokemon Go has announced a new event called Road to Unova, which will take place from February 24 to March 2 and include additional bonuses, Timed Research, and avatar items.
- On top of this, Niantic has also revealed the Pokedex will be getting a visual update, aimed at helping players recognize Pokemon they need for their collections.
Pokemon Go Tour: Unova is not that far away now, and many of you that plan on celebrating will likely already be getting ready if you plan on heading out to one of the in-person events. However, if you still need help getting into the Unova spirit, then developer Niantic is giving you a hand with a new event in the run-up to Pokemon Go Tour: Unova called Road to Unova.
For starters, Niantic is giving players a Tour Pass, which is a free, limited-time progression track that you’ll be able to take on during Pokemon Go Tour: Unova that will net you a bunch of rewards and bonuses. You go through this track by completing tasks given to you and earning Tour Points, which you can then use to rank up and earn rewards.

For those of you with a bit of extra cash to throw around, a fancy version of the Tour Pass will be available, which will give you even more rewards and faster progression. You’ll also be given a guaranteed encounter with a Victini, regardless of whether you’ve caught one before. The free version of this pass will be dished out to all players on February 24, but will expire on March 2, so make sure you complete everything you want to.
Road To Unova Also Includes Shiny Meloetta And A Pokedex Overhaul
Other additions coming with Road to Unova also include the debut of Shiny Meloetta, which can be encountered with a Masterwork Research ticket that will be made available to purchase for $4.99 when the event starts on February 24. Just like the Tour Pass, these tickets will also expire on March 2, so grab them while you can.
If you don’t feel like splashing the cash, never fear, as a pretty extensive update will also be rolling out during Road to Unova that will cost you absolutely nothing. Niantic used this event announcement to reveal that our beloved Pokedex will be getting a “comprehensive” visual update.
While Niantic doesn’t reveal exactly when this visual update will go live, or what it will actually look like. It does claim that it will be ready for when Pokemon Go Tour: Unova kicks off. Its main aim will be to try and make it more clear which Pokemon you still need to complete your collections, so it’s a good little update for all you completionists out there.
