A beloved PS2 game series is set to receive an all-new entry for the first time in almost a decade, but it’s not the return fans were expecting. Following a recent trademark leak, we were hoping to receive news of a new Katamari game for consoles, but Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced Katamari Damacy Rolling LIVE for Apple Arcade instead.
PS2 series Katamari hasn’t received a new console game since 2011
The trademak application that Bandai Namco filed back in late February was for something called Once Upon a Katamari, so although the Apple Arcade announcement has disappointed some fans, it’s not all bad news.
As we mentioned then, Bandai Namco games often leak ahead of their official announcements via trademark applications and ratings, so it’s quite possible that Once Upon a Katamari is a console game that’s yet to be revealed.
We can’t confirm anything until an official announcement is made, but given that Bandai Namco just announced an Apple Arcade entry, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for more Katamari news soon.
Katamari’s last new console release was 2011’s PS Vita exclusive, Touch My Katamari. The series did get one new entry in the last decade, but it was a mobile game.
