Sequel The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication from Softstar Entertainment and PQUBE brings us a new first-person horror experience on PlayStation 5. I reviewed the previous game, The Bridge Curse: Road to Salvation, in 2023 on PlayStation 5, so I was certainly interested in seeing if this new game manages to expand on what its prequel did on Sony’s hardware a couple of years ago. For this new game, you’ll be exploring Wen Hua University, a place that is allegedly cursed and swarming with ghosts and other entities. After the university’s film club decides to work on bringing new members to their group thanks to the Carnival of Horror event, things go terribly wrong, and the line between film and reality slowly begins to blur…
You’ll be playing as four different characters during your time with The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication: Sue Lian, Richie Chen, A-Hai, and Wu-Zi Nan. Sue Lian is the former lead anchor for United News and is currently working as a reporter. Richie Chan is a junior at Wen Han University studying finance. A-Hai is a sophomore at Wen Han University and is currently studying finance. As for Wu-Zi Nan, he’s a freshman at Wen Han University who is currently studying veterinary medicine. Their destinies will be intertwined once the curse takes over and the ghosts begin to do their thing.
As was the case for the previous game, The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication is played from a first-person perspective. Because of this, you’ll be controlling your character by using the left analog stick and the right analog stick to look around you as needed. With danger lurking around every corner, you’ll always need to be on high alert. This is why you can quickly turn around by pressing the R2 button at any time. And if you need to run away quickly, just press in on the left analog stick! If, on the other hand, you need to take things a bit more slowly or must get through a tight spot, press in on the right analog stick to crouch. You’ll make less noise while crouching, which is important if you don’t want to get caught!
Enemies will be able to hear the noise you make as you move, as well as any noise made from bumping into items or anything around you. Interact with items or other characters by pressing the X button. Check out our inventory by pressing the Triangle button. Open up your cellphone with the Square button and switch between its tabs by pressing the L1 and R1 buttons. That way, you’ll be able to check out calls and messages. Oh, and you should press the Touchpad on the DualSense to open up your map! This is crucial since you’ll get to see where you are and where your next objective is located.
Once you get the Anima lantern, you’ll be able to use it to explore some items to reveal clues, as well as dispel evil energy. All you need to do is press the R1 button! Doing this will light up your surroundings with a soothing energy that will also point you in the right direction of the next clue that you need to reveal to progress further. Do know that you don’t need to dispel evil energy in one spot in a single go. That means you can use the Anima lantern to fill up the lantern gauge at a spot, hide if a ghost spots you, and then continue with your task once the ghost is not chasing you. On top of that, the lantern also has the power to protect you. When the symbols on the Anima lantern are lit up, it will be able to protect you from a single lethal ghost attack. After that, you’ll need to wait until the Anima lantern’s energy is fully charged up before you can rely on it to protect you.
Trophy-wise, this one features a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy for you to add to your collection. And since it’s a Cross-Buy title, you’ll be able to download both the PS4 and PS5 versions to your PS5 console, and each one will have a separate trophy list. Each of the lists is split into 12 Bronze trophies, 5 Silver trophies, and 8 Gold trophies for you to work on. What will you need to do in order to add that shiny Platinum to your collection? Along with the trophies that are tied to completing each of the game’s story chapters, there are also some miscellaneous objectives for you to sort out. You’ll need to find and grab all collectibles in the game. Locate a black cat for some extra good luck. You’ll also have to die in every single possible way. If you need some extra help, you can check out this The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication Trophy Guide.
