News surrounding the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remake has been bleak since it was announced at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase. Aspyr Media was originally slated to develop the game, but those duties have shifted to Saber Interactive over a tumultuous development cycle. While reports do not seem in favor of the remake’s release, a new statement from Saber Interactive CCO Tim Willits suggests it is still in development.
In a recent post on X (via Insider Gaming), Willits states “everything” that has been announced publicly is still in development. While the Star Wars: KOTOR remake is not explicitly mentioned in this statement, it does heavily imply that it is still in active development as the remake had a formal reveal.
Saber Interactive is one of the largest independent developers in the world. We are working on numerous games across many different genres. Everything that we have talked about is still in development. We will share information on upcoming games when we have something cool to…

The last time there was any information about the Star Wars: KOTOR remake, things were looking gloomy for the anticipated game. It was reported by video game journalist and insider Jeff Grubb that Sony Interactive Entertainment has lost interest in the PS5 exclusive. The rumors and leaks that preceded it were equally calamitous. The studio originally put on the project fired two of its directors, then Embracer Group suffered from a financial crisis that saw it offload a bunch of studios and IPs.
Although this statement from Willits brings a glimmer of hope to the Star Wars: KOTOR remake, it is still uncertain when and if it will come out in the near future. We will just have to wait and see what Saber Interactive has to say when they “have something cool to share.”
