The Witcher IV Director Denies That Ciri’s Character Model Has Been Changed Since Reveal Trailer

The game director on The Witcher IV has refuted claims that the character model for Ciri has been altered since the game’s debut trailer at December’s The Game Awards 2024.

People had assumed that Ciri’s appearance had been changed for the highly anticipated fantasy-RPG, as the reveal trailer featured a number of cinematic angles that made it difficult to appreciate the finer details of her model. A recent behind-the-scenes video looking at the making of trailer had some people convinced CD Projekt RED had altered her appearance, but Sebastians Kalemba has shot this down in a post on X.

The behind-the-scenes video features the same in-game model of Ciri as seen in the original trailer. We have not modified it. What you’re seeing is raw footage—without facial animation, lighting, or virtual camera lenses. While it’s still in-engine, it represents a work-in-progress snapshot taken before we applied cinematic touches for the purpose of that video. This variation is a natural part of the game development process. At this point, any character’s appearance may vary depending on the medium—whether it’s in a trailer, a 3D model, or in-game.

While we’re on the subject of Ciri, CD Projekt RED previously confirmed that the role has been recast for The Witcher IV, with Ciara Berkeley replacing original voice actor Jo Wyatt. Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist of the earlier entries in the franchise, will also be appearing in The Witcher IV, but his role is being kept under wraps.
