Ballistic Moon launched its Until Dawn remake for PS5 last October. It was meant to improve and modernize Supermassive’s beloved PS4 horror game with upgraded visuals and gameplay. However, the remake missed the mark as the game’s unremarkable return was riddled with issues. Today, a new report suggests the studio is now “effectively closed.”
Ballistic Moon “effectively closed” after releasing flawed Until Dawn remake
According to a new report from Insider Gaming, roughly 40 employees were laid off in September 2024. The staff that remained helped support the game after its October launch. However, in December 2024, Ballistic Moon saw roughly an additional 20 employees let go. It seems those still with the studio include the founders and a “handful” of supporting staff. The report states its public relations, marketing, and development departments are unstaffed.
“People are sharing bugs they’ve found in the game to make the team aware but there is no one working on patch support for the game anymore,” one source told Insider Gaming. “The studio has effectively closed now.”
Sources claim Ballistic Moon’s leadership attempted to look for funding and pitch projects, but were seemingly unsuccessful in both ventures. Despite its troubles, it seems most employees found the studio to be a decent workplace. However, sources spoke about experience unpaid overtime, one of which claimed they weren’t paid for “weeks” of work.
It is currently unclear if Ballistic Moon plans to shut its doors permanently.
In other Until Dawn news, the first trailer for Sony Pictures Entertainment’s film adaptation of the game was revealed in January. It seems it is related to the game only by name as the trailer definitely does not portray the events from the 2015 release. The film is directed by David F. Sandberg and stars Ella Rubin, Odessa A’zion, and Michael Cimino. It will release only in theaters on April 25.
