Valheim Teases Deep North Content in New Trailer Series

Summary

  • Valheim teases Deep North content with trailers starring Hervor Bloodtooth.
  • Iron Gate AB is developing new enemies, dungeons, and weapons for Deep North.
  • The Deep North update is expected to bring northern lights and snow-covered trees.

Valheim‘s development team is getting players amped up for the release of its Deep North content in an unconventional way, releasing a series of short trailers starring an original character named Hervor Bloodtooth. There’s no indication of exactly when the Deep North content will hit Valheim, but the video series shows promise that Iron Gate AB is working towards getting it live.

A survival sandbox game that places players in the role of slain Vikings trying to earn their way into Valhalla, Valheim first launched in Early Access on PC exactly four years ago, on February 2, 2021. Developed by a team of just five people, the game saw instant success, as Valheim became Steam’s top-selling weekly game just a few days after its launch, not even needing a full week to eclipse Dyson Sphere Program and every other game available on the platform.

Every Feature Valheim Still Needs to Be ‘Complete’

Before Valheim reaches its full release, the developers at Iron Gate Studio still have a few areas to improve existing features and add new ones.

While not one of its original six main biomes, the Deep North biome in Valheim has been around since the game’s earliest days. However, while every area in Valheim is procedurally generated, players usually find the Deep North pretty barren and empty, prompting an update that’s already been several months in the making and, according to some sources, isn’t likely to arrive until the end of 2025 at the earliest. To keep fans interested until that update’s release, Iron Gate AB has launched a narrative trailer series with its own original star: Deep North explorer Hervor Bloodtooth. Shared through the game’s development blog on Steam, only one installment of the series has been released so far, and fans haven’t learned much about Blootooth yet. From her narration, she views the Deep North as the final step on her path to Valhalla.

Valheim Shares Deep North Content through New Original Character

In the development blog, Iron Gate AB states that its team is hard at work adding new enemies, dungeons, and weapons to the survival sandbox game, giving players a vague glimpse of what to expect in Valheim‘s Deep North update. There are still very few specifics on what players can expect to see, but the blog mentions northern lights and snow-covered trees, which are to be expected in the game’s frigid, northernmost zone. It also states that The Voyage of Hervor Bloodtooth will continue as a trailer series, but the developers will continue to share updates via other means as well.

The last big content update in Valheim went in the opposite direction, focusing on the southernmost region of the map. Valheim‘s Ashlands Update released in May 2024, adding more than 30 new weapons, three sets of armor, a wide variety of new crafting materials and buildable objects, and area-specific music alongside new events. After a positive reception to the changes in the Ashlands, many players have high expectations for the overhaul of the Deep North, which may be the final big update before the game exits Early Access.
